"It seemed very natural to them to be playing in this rhythm," Langham says. Within his travels he would go and hear other musicians and hear what they were doing, and he would incorporate that into his music." In the case of "Blue Rondo a la Turk," Brubeck picked up the rhythm from street musicians in Turkey. Langham says that Brubeck "was a very worldly person. Of course, novelty is in the ear of the beholder. It even gets a bit more complicated: for most of the piece, there are three measures of the unusual 9/8 rhythm followed by one measure of the usual groups of three. In 9/8 time, the nine eighth notes are usually divided into three groups of three, with the stress pattern one two three one two three one two three, but "Blue Rondo" has the pattern one two one two one two one two three. "Blue Rondo a la Turk" has a time signature of 9/8. "This allowed college students to be different, in the sense of adding a funky twist to it." "Take Five," which was conceived by Brubeck's saxophonist Paul Desmond, is in 5/4 with the accent pattern one two three four five, so each measure can be thought of as being split into two uneven chunks. Langham says that from a dance point of view, the meter of "Take Five" combines a waltz and a two-step, both of which were popular in the 1950s and 1960s with the parents of teenagers. 4/4 means that there are four beats and a quarter note lasts for one beat, yielding four quarter notes in each measure.) Time Out, the hit 1959 album by the Dave Brubeck Quartet, was one of the first popular jazz works to explore meters beyond the traditional 4/4 and 3/4. "He sort of tired of the traditional patterns of jazz," says Patrick Langham, a saxophonist and faculty member of the Brubeck Institute at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif. The pianist and composer was an innovator, especially when it came to combining rhythms and meters in new ways. In 2022 the ASTM safety warnings for these products were revised to state: I wish this product was made better because the bounce and vibrating function soothes my son for the moments that the vibrating function is on.Rockers, Swings, and Bouncers should not be used for sleep. I had to do the same 3 times with the Safari Dream swing as well. ![]() I would exchange it again after only having this one that I've already exchanged for a few weeks but the half hour drive is such an inconvenience with 2 kids. The vibration function turns off after 30 minutes and my son awakes crying every time it turns off which is another disappoint. Also, the toy bar rattles loudly while the vibrate function is on. I gave a 1 for Quality/durability as the toy bar is loose and when bouncing my 1 month old makes an annoying clink sound. I do love the pattern and that's why I chose the Safari Dream design. I did call Fisher Price Customer Service and they were helpful and sent out a new motor for the bouncer at no charge. I received the new one and it did the same thing. I've purchased this item and had to exchange it as the music and vibrating functions wouldn't work at the same time. I was not required to make my review positive - these thoughts are truly my own as a mother of 3 children under the age of 4. I received this item at a discounted rate in exchange for my honest review. I'm really happy with this purchase and think that this is a good buy. The colors are nice and the chandelier mobile is cute. ![]() ![]() It's nice that the cover is easy to get on and off if you need to remove it for washing. I had a few instances of having a hard time balancing the support while installing the plastic brackets and screws. It probably took me about 15 minutes or so. And looked SO COZY! This was a LITTLE tough to assemble. Not with this one! I put baby in and he fell asleep pretty quickly. The 'other brand' bouncer I had is much flatter so the buckle is required to keep the baby in the bouncer - it definitely doesn't look comfortable. The seat is also nice and deep, so you aren't necessarily relying on the buckle to hold baby in place - the baby's bottom is sitting. I was excited to see just how plush and cozy this bouncer is. The music and vibration doesn't comfort him. I had another brand for my first two children but my third does not like it - if I put him in it, he will only stay calm if I am standing there making him bounce. This is not a must as i really like it the way it is but the chandelier could stick out a little futher then what it does or even add something to make it go round and round which is just a suggestion the product itself is really great with the exception of how loud the sound goes. Now it does have room for improvment such as the sound i wish it was a tad bit louder then it is currently is. The vibration is a wonderful feature as well love it. The little tunes it plays are super cute my little one loves them as well as the nature sounds she is always looking around like where is it at. I also liked how you can remove the chandelier if you wanted and it not look weird. Its super soft and thick with padding and super big and that was a very big plus for me cause i always want my little one to be comfterble no matter what.I also really like how ou can adjust the head and body rest as your child grows i really liked that. This is a really nice bouncer it was very easy to put together and did come with extra screws in case one got lost i think two to be exact. |
